THE INTEGRATION OF SHE - REVIEWS & COMMENTS

"This film is a MUST SEE for every adolescent male and female! It gives a view into the minds and hearts of teen-aged girls that is rarely captured."
- Linda H. Sampliner Ed. D. Psychologist

"The Integration of She is real. The filmmaker does an incredible job of creating a safe place for young women from the Southwest to share their views - at times provocative, at times funny, at times intensely sad and moving. These are voices to be listened to and heeded - the powerful and wise voices of youth."
- Teena Jo Neal, youth art educator, photographer and editorial staff of Movement Magazine, a Tucson youth publication.

"Girls' voices are often silenced in this culture. In The Integration of She, filmmaker Hazel Colditz breaks that silence by encouraging her female subjects to share their innermost musings on topics ranging from the serious to the silly. She allows these young women to reveal the sometimes sage, sometimes whimsical way in which they integrate their inner and outer worlds to forge a unique identity for themselves. Her camera captures the youthful essence of each girl as well as the beauty and squalor of the urban wonderland they all inhabit. As they hold forth about their views on religion, ethics, feminism, family and more, we are compelled to listen."

"I would like to highly recommend this movie to all parents, teachers, high school students and other professionals who work with this age group. This is a well-informed, open, honest and candid look from the teenager's perspective. This film gets to the marrow of the matter when it comes to how teenagers see themselves personally, and in coexistence with their outer world. I was stunned by the candidness of these young women. The background filming is exquisite.

The director utilizes areas throughout the City of Tucson in a very unique manner. Please DO get this film to watch with your teenager and especially in your classroom, great discussion material! "

"The Integration Of She, a documentary film by Hazel Colditz, is a candid, thought-provoking look at what it's like to be a young woman in today's world. The movie bears witness to the opinions, dreams and beliefs of twenty girls, ages 12 to 18, on such topics as feminism, spirituality, happiness, self-esteem, and telling the truth.

Some of the girls seem naively innocent, while others are experienced beyond their years. Some are bookish and clean-faced; still others sport tattoos and glitter. Yet common threads of honesty, intelligence and candor are woven throughout their testimonies. The filmmaker uses extreme close-ups on the girls, which evokes an almost cocoon-like effect. The technique serves to echo their burgeoning womanhood, while at the same time offering them a safe environment in which to express themselves. Who are their role models? What impact would they like to have on the world? They tackle these tough questions fearlessly, and we are delighted by the brilliant flashes of youthful wisdom that emerge from their musings.

This is a film that begs to be seen and discussed by today's teenage girls, their parents and their teachers. It can open a door onto communication and deeper understanding of this brave new generation of young women."
