When I’m Sixty Four

When I get older losing my hair,
Many years from now.
Will you still be sending me a valentine
Birthday greetings bottle of wine.
If I’d been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door,
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I’m sixty-four.
You’ll be older too,
And it you say the word,
I could stay with you.
I could be handy, mending a fuse
When your lights have gone.
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings go for a ride,
Doing the garden, digging the weeds,
Who could ask for more.
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I’m sixty-four.
Every summer we can rent a cottage,
In the Isle of Wight, if it’s not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera Chuck & Dave
Send me a postcard, drop me a line,
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, wasting away
Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I’m sixty-four

met with a young and upcoming graffiti artist after work today…he is a teenager struggling to perfect his art form…. our city of almost one million population, has a councilman wanting to change the laws so that parents will be jailed if their kids are caught!! ok, now the rant…why can we not have a public wall or two for these kids to practice this art form of self expression? how can we educate the people in this community to the beauty and skill in this medium? i have travelled extensively and in most large cities they do have “safety zones” or walls dedicated to artists for this medium! and i must say they are works of art! in barcelona, spain, right next door to the museum of modern art they have a wall which extends the length of the building and contains the plaza where all mural/graffiti artists daily gather to paint new works…with skate boarders!! as the mom of this young man said so beautifully, “i love his art and admire his new works and then he goes and paints over it….they have NO attachment!” hhmmm…seems we could learn something from our youth today.
